FAQS
Okay, I’m Interested. Now I Have Questions.
And I’ve Got Answers. You’ve read the website. Maybe saw yourself in a few places you weren’t expecting.
Maybe you’re thinking therapy could be helpful. But before you commit, you need to know some things.
How much is this going to cost me? Do you take insurance? How soon can I start?
Am I going to have to tell you my entire life story during a 15-minute consultation?
Let’s get into it. If you don’t see your question here, click here to get in touch.
-
I am licensed and located in Florida. I provide online therapy, exclusively.
-
Usually, pretty soon. I can typically schedule your free 15-minute consultation within one business week. If we decide we’re a good fit, we can usually schedule your first therapy session within about two weeks.
Of course, there is one tiny detail: Our schedules have to cooperate.
I see clients virtually Monday through Friday, with appointments beginning between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Your actual start date will depend on whether your availability matches mine.
-
First of all, you do not need to tell me your entire life story in 15 minutes.
We’re talking scaled way back, please. I’ll ask what’s bringing you to therapy and a few follow-up questions so I can understand how things are affecting you, what may be contributing to them, and what you’re hoping could be different.
You’ll also get a chance to learn a little about me, ask questions, and get a feel for what it’s like to actually talk to me.
Because qualifications matter. But so do vibes.
By the end of our conversation, we should both have a better sense of whether we might work well together. I’ll also be considering whether my experience and skill set are appropriate for what you need.
And if I believe someone else could serve you better? I’ll tell you.
I’m not interested in taking you on just because you called me. I want you working with someone who can actually help, and when possible, I’ll help point you toward the right person.
-
Your 15-minute consultation is free.
If we decide to move forward, your initial intake session is a one-time fee of $225.
After that, individual therapy sessions are $200 per session.
No scavenger hunt through the website required. There are the numbers.
-
I am a private-pay therapist and do not bill insurance directly.
If you have out-of-network benefits, I may be able to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Before we go that route, though, let’s talk about it.
Every insurance plan is different, and receiving a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement. I want you to understand the process and know what questions to ask your insurance company before you count on receiving money back.
-
Our first full session is the intake, and it can take up to an hour. The consultation gave me the broad strokes.
Now we have a little more time to color in the picture.
I’ll want to know more about what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to be different, what you’ve already tried, and what might be getting in the way. Depending on what’s relevant to you, we may also talk about your relationships and family, work, physical and mental health, previous experiences with therapy, medications, support system, and other parts of your life and history that help me understand the fuller picture.
That does not mean I’m going to fire every question known to humankind at you in one sitting. I use an assessment to guide me, and we’ll spend more time in areas that seem important to you and the reasons you’re coming to therapy.
Basically, the consultation answers: “Do we think we might work well together?”
The intake starts answering: “Okay. Now that we’re doing this, what do I need to understand about you so we can figure out where we’re going?”
-
Your initial intake can take up to 60 minutes. After that, individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes.
We’ll start by meeting weekly for your first four sessions. That gives us some consistency while I’m getting to know you, you’re getting comfortable with me, and we’re figuring out what you actually want from therapy.
After those four sessions, we’ll reconvene. We’ll talk about how things are going and decide what session frequency makes sense based on your needs.
-
Nope.
My therapy hours are Monday through Friday, with my first session beginning at 10:00 a.m. and my last session beginning at 3:00 p.m.
If you specifically need evening or weekend therapy, we probably won’t be the best scheduling match.
And that’s okay.
Better to know that now than after we’ve both gotten excited.
-
I offer virtual therapy, exclusively. I work with clients throughout the state of Florida, which is one of the things I enjoy about providing therapy virtually. Virtual therapy can make care more accessible when location, schedules, responsibilities, or other circumstances might otherwise make getting to therapy more difficult.
You get to attend from a private space that works for you. And neither one of us has to fight Florida traffic to get there.
Everybody wins.
-
No. My practice is focused on individual therapy.
If what you need is couples therapy, family therapy, or another treatment modality, I’ll recommend that you work with a clinician who specializes in that type of care.
Because if another type of therapy is actually what you need, squeezing it into individual therapy isn't doing you any favors.
-
Sometimes, yes.
There may be a time when having your partner or another supportive adult join one of your sessions could be helpful to your individual therapy. You would remain my client, and the session would still focus on your treatment.
Cool. We can do that when it makes sense. What we’re not doing is quietly turning your individual therapy into couples or family therapy.
Having someone join you would be an occasional and intentional part of your individual work, not a regular arrangement.
-
No. Your therapy session needs to be private.
We may talk about your relationships, your family, your frustrations, your fears, things you’re still figuring out, or something you simply don't want your child hearing.
You deserve space where you can speak freely without monitoring what little ears may be picking up.
For these 50 minutes? You get to focus on you.
-
Then you don’t know. That’s okay.
You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly organized list of therapy goals and a five-point agenda. Maybe all you know is: Something has got to give.
We can start there. I’ll ask questions. We’ll get curious. We’ll pay attention to what keeps showing up.
And eventually, we’ll start getting clearer about what you want to be different.
You don’t need to know exactly how to get there yet. That’s part of what we’re here to figure out.
Still Have a Question?
Good. Ask me. The FAQ can answer the logistical stuff.
It cannot tell you whether you’ll feel comfortable talking to me, whether I have the right skill set for what you're dealing with, or whether we both think working together makes sense.
That’s what the consultation is for. You don’t have to commit to therapy just to have the conversation. We can talk for 15 minutes. See how the vibe feels.
Ask what you need to ask. And go from there.
