MINDFUL MOMENTS Part I.
Mindfulness is one of the foundational pillars of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). It has become more known in Western Culture, and for that we have been made more centered and focused in a world full of distractions.
Mindfulness in DBT is described as intentionally living with awareness in the present moment, without judging or rejecting the moment, and without attachment to the moment.
Mindfulness skills are described as specific behaviors that are practiced to help you become more aware of what is going on right here, right now. They help you to become grounded in reality and intentionally focus your mind.
Mindfulness skills are convenient and practical. They can be done anywhere, at any time. All you need to do is be intentional about what you are giving your attention to, without judgement or holding onto the moment.
We can consider mindfulness as an umbrella term as well. Under the umbrella includes meditation, contemplative prayer, and mindfulness movement i.e. Yoga, martial arts, spiritual dancing, hiking, even walking!
As you explore this blog, I hope that you are able to practice mindfulness as I present meditations and examples of mindful ideas you may explore to bring more balance and peace to your daily life.
